LEARNING OUTCOMES
As contemporary art and design practices evolve through the mixing and transformation of media, we embrace the interdisciplinary nature of today’s art and design landscape and encourage our students to think beyond boundaries and make connections across disciplines. Adaptability is essential in this ever-changing creative world, and we aim to equip our students with the confidence to navigate new tools, emerging technologies, and shifting cultural contexts with agility and imagination.
Knowledge
Students gain a strong foundation in art fundamentals, which form a solid basis for imaginative and effective creative expression. They also develop technical understanding in using industry-standard tools, enabling them to transform concepts into professional digital outputs. Building on this artistic and technical base, students explore the core principles of graphic design and visual communication, as well as visual storytelling by creating compelling 2D and 3D animations for various digital media platforms. The program prepares students to produce engaging visual content across diverse contemporary media.
Skills
- Students develop advanced artistic and technical competencies, enabling them to produce visual work that is both conceptually purposeful and creatively expressive.
- Using industry-standard software, they create high-quality illustrations, brand identities, motion graphics, and 2D/3D animations aligned with clearly articulated design intentions.
- They learn to strategically tailor visual outcomes to effectively engage defined target audiences.
- Students employ visual, written, and narrative methodologies to support inquiry, problem-solving, and professional communication.
- They synthesize original creative thinking with established theoretical frameworks and contemporary industry practices.
- Through sustained critique, of both their own work and that of others, they refine aesthetic judgment and analytical abilities.
- They develop the capacity to present, justify, and communicate design and animation concepts confidently across a range of media, professional environments, and collaborative settings.
PEDAGOGICAL METHODS
The Graphic Design and Animation modules are generally taught with a mixture of theory and applied practice. However, pedagogical approaches vary substantially from module to module and are described in detail in each module description.
Most modules employ the traditional project-based learning critique method, a widely used approach in art programs. Students work on projects constrained by specific criteria aligned with the module’s learning objectives. Upon completion, these projects are subject to group critiques, which help students develop their subject-specific vocabulary and enhance their ability to analyze and refine their work.
These modules are primarily conducted in studio spaces or computer labs to facilitate hands-on learning.
